Heat Breaks Down Fluid

Automatic transmission fluid is the lifeblood of the transmission, carrying hydraulic pressure to engage gears, lubricating internal moving parts, and cooling the system. Heat is the number-one killer of transmission fluid. When fluid heats up — which occurs under normal loads, but is heavily accelerated by Florida’s climate — it undergoes oxidation. This chemical process destroys protective additives and thins the fluid, causing internal pressure loss and rapid wear on gears and bearings.
